Upload key and app signing

Updated October 14, 2026

Google Play checks that every upload really comes from you. StoreReady takes care of this.

  • On your app's first Android build, StoreReady creates an upload key for it and keeps it encrypted.
  • Google Play App Signing keeps the key that signs the app people download. The upload key only proves the uploads come from you.

"Google Play expects a different upload key for this app"

This happens when the app was uploaded to Google Play before with another key, by hand or by another service. Ask Google to accept StoreReady's key instead:

  1. In your app's Settings → Stores → Upload key, press Certificate to download it.
  2. In Play Console open Test and release → App integrity and request an upload key reset. Choose a reason and upload the certificate.
  3. When Google confirms the reset, start a new build.

Don't see the certificate yet? It shows up after the app's next Android build. If you're stuck, write to help@storeready.app and we will help.

"Google Play already has a version with code …"

Every upload needs a higher version code than the last one. Start a new build and it gets a higher one.
