TestFlight groups and testers

Updated October 15, 2026

Testers on iPhone belong to groups. A group decides who gets a build. Make as many as you like, for example Team, Friends and Beta.

Two kinds of groups

Your team (internal)

  • People on your App Store Connect team, up to 100.
  • They get a build minutes after Apple processes it. No review.
  • To add someone who is not on your team yet, invite them first in App Store Connect, Users and Access.

Anyone (external)

  • Anyone with an email address, or anyone with your public link, up to 10,000 people.
  • Apple's beta review checks the first build of each version before they get it, usually within a day. Later builds of the same version are often approved at once.
  • Apple needs test information once before that review. See Send a build to TestFlight testers.

Make a group

  1. Open your app, the Testing tab.
  2. Under Tester groups press New group.
  3. Give it a name and pick Anyone or Your team.
  4. For an Anyone group you can turn on Public link: a link anyone can open on their iPhone to join, no email needed. Apple shows the link once the group has its first approved build. You can also limit how many people can join with it.
  5. Leave Send new builds to this group on if every new build should go to it.
  6. Press Make the group.

Add testers

Press Add testers on the group and paste email addresses, one per line or separated by commas. You can write a name in front: Ann Lee <ann@example.com>. Up to 100 at a time.

Apple emails each person an invitation once the group has a build. They:

  1. Install TestFlight from the App Store on their iPhone.
  2. Open the invitation email and tap View in TestFlight, or open your public link.
  3. Tap Install. Updates arrive in TestFlight with each new build you send.

See who is in a group

Press the group's name. Each person shows whether they were invited, accepted or installed. Invite again sends the invitation email once more. Remove takes them out of the group.

Change or delete a group

The ⋯ menu on a group turns the public link on or off and deletes the group. A deleted group is gone from App Store Connect too, and its testers lose access to builds they got only through it.
